Cyberpunk was born and died between credits in Blade Runner. That's how good it was. Nothing else comes close.
Well, I guess Neuromancer comes close. But whatever.

Blade Runner is one of my favorite films of all time, but I've been pining to see Neuromancer on the silver screen for ages.

I don't think it would take some sort of comic book dude like Joss Whedon to do it. Not enough art there, not enough restraint.
It would take David Fincher (
Seven, Fight Club, Social Network, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl
). If he even cares. That's the man to do it.
Could you deal with it being bad? I don't know that I could bear it. So there's your paradox. Would you rather never see your favorite movie made, rather than have it made and be terrible?

No, I don't want it to be terrible. I get so angry with bad adaptations.
Duncan Jones and Neill Blomkamp would both be good.

In the year 2044, the global council decided to outlaw the gas-powered motor car. Any and all found using them were heavily fined. Repeat offenders were killed on the spot. The gas stockpiling wars took a toll on the automakers, who rushed out with many electric conversions for the people.
By 2050, only a few dared burn petroleum in their cars. Those who did were F*cken awesome! long live the gasoline!
